Spelling Information:

INFO: The dentals t and d are pronounced with
the tip of the tongue placed against the front upper teeth

INFO: The aspirates kh, gh , .th , .dh , th , dh , ph , bh ,
are pronounced with an h sound immediately following;
e.g., in blockhead, pighead, cat-head, log- head, etc.,
where the h in each is combined with the preceding
consonant in pronunciation.

INFO: .t, .th, .d, .dh, .l are lingual sounds;
in pronouncing, the tongue is to be pressed
against the palate.

INFO: Double consonants: each of them is to be
pronounced; e.g., bb as in scrub-board; tt as in cat-tail

INFO: h Always, even in positions immediately following
consonants or doubled consonants;
e.g. bh as in cab-horse;
ch as chh in ranch-house;
dh as in handhold;
gh as in bag-handle;
jh as dgh in sledge-hammer, etc.

INFO: for Number 38 ___ ว ___ v
This spelling above is the way the Thais pronounce it --
they cannot pronounce "sv" and so insert an "a" in between.
When you see a 'V'...such as 'svakkhato', besides inserting the 'a' (with Thai), the 'V' is pronounced as a 'W'...so it sounds like 'sah-wah-kaht-o'....this applies to all 'V's...

The Danger-free Protection

Whatever unlucky portents & ill omens,

โย จามะ นา โป สะ กุ ณัสสะ สัทโท
Yo cāmanāpo sakunassa saddo
And whatever distressing bird calls,

ปา ปัค คะ โห ทุ สสุปิ นัง อะกัน ตัง
Pāpaggaho dussupinam akantam
Evil planets, upsetting nightmares:

พุทธานุ ภา เวนะ วินา สะเมน ตุ ฯ
Buddhānubhāvena vināsamentu
By the Buddhas power may they be destroyed.

4.1_Panca Sila - The Five Precepts

ปาณาติปาตา เวระมะณี สิกขาปะทัง สะมาทิยามิ
Pāṇātipātā veramaṇī sikkhāpadaṃ samādiyāmi.
I undertake the training rule to abstain from taking life.

อะทินนาทานา เวระมะณี สิกขาปะทัง สะมาทิยามิ
Adinnādānā veramaṇī sikkhāpadaṃ samādiyāmi.
I undertake the training rule to abstain from taking what is not given.

กาเมสุมิจฉาจารา เวระมะณี สิกขาปะทัง สะมาทิยามิ
Kāmesu micchācāra veramaṇī sikkhāpadaṃ samādiyāmi.
I undertake the training rule to abstain from sexual misconduct.

มุสาวาทา เวระมะณี สิกขาปะทัง สะมาทิยามิ
Musāvāda veramaṇī sikkhāpadaṃ samādiyāmi.
I undertake the training rule to abstain from false speech.

สุราเมระยะมัชชะปะมาทัฏฐานา เวระมะณี สิกขาปะทัง สะมาทิยามิ
Surā-meraya-majja-pamādaṭṭhānā veramaṇī sikkhāpadaṃ samādiyāmi.
I undertake the training rule to abstain from drinks and drugs that cause heedlessness.

5_ Salutation to the Triple Gem - Ratanattaya Vandanaa

โย โส ภะคะวา อะระหัง สัมมาสัมพุทโธ
Yo so bhagavaa araham sammaasambuddho
To the Blessed One, the Lord who fully attained perfect enlightenment,

สวากขาโต เยนะ ภะคะวะตา ธัมโม
Savaakkhaato yena bhagavataa dhammo
To the Teaching which he expounded so well,

สุปะฏิปันโน ยัสสะ ภะคะวะโต สาวะกะสังโฆ
Supa.tipanno yassa bhagavato saavakasangho
And to the Blessed One's disciples, who have practised well,

ตัมมะยัง ภะคะวันตัง สะธัมมัง สะสังฆัง
Tammayam bhagavantam sadhammam sasangham
To these - the Buddha, the Dhamma and the Sangha -

อิเมหิ สักกาเรหิ ยะถาระหัง อาโรปิเตหิ อะภิปูชะยามะ
Imehi sakkaarehi yathaaraham aaropitehi abhipuujayaama
We render with offerings our rightful homage.

สาธุ โน ภันเต ภะคะวา สุจิระปะรินิพพุโตปิ
Saadhu no bhante bhagavaa suciraparinibbutopi
It is well for us, Blessed One, that having attained liberation,

ปัจฉิมาชะนะตานุกัมปะมานะสา
Pacchimaa-janataa-nukampamaanasaa
You still had compassion for later generations.

อิเม สักกาเร ทุคคะตะปัณณาการะภูเต ปะฏิคคัณหาตุ
Ime sakkaare duggata-pannaakaara-bhuute pa.tigga.nhaatu
Deign to accept these simple offerings

อัมหากัง ทีฆะรัตตัง หิตายะ สุขายะ ฯ
Amhaakam diigharattam hitaaya sukhaaya
For our long-lasting benefit and for the happiness it gives us.

อะระหัง สัมมาสัมพุทโธ ภะคะวา
araham sammaa sambuddho bhagavaa
To the Perfectly Self enlighted one and blessed one, who has extinguished all suffering

พุทธัง ภะคะวันตังอภิวาเทมิ
buddham bhagavaantam abhivaademi
I bow down before the Awakened, Blessed One

8_Buddha Bhithuti - Praise to the Buddha

(นำ) หันทะ มะยัง พุทธาภิถุติง กะโรมะ เส ฯ
Handa mayam buddhaabhithutim karoma se:
Now let us give high praise to the Awakened One:

(ALL):
(รับ) โย โส ตะถาคะโต อะระหัง สัมมาสัมพุทโธ,
[Yo so tathaagato] araham sammaa-sambuddho,
He who has attained the Truth, the Worthy One, Rightly Self-awakened,

วิชชาจะระณะ สัมปันโน สุคะโต โลกะวิทู
Vijjaa-carana-sampanno sugato lokaviduu,
consummate in knowledge & conduct, one who has gone the good way, knower of the cosmos,

อะนุตตะโร ปุริสะทัมมะสาระถิ สัตถา เทวะมะนุสสานัง พุทโธ ภะคะวา
Anuttaro purisa-damma-saarathi satthaa
deva-manussaanam buddho bhagavaa;
unexcelled trainer of those who can be taught, teacher of human & divine beings; awakened; blessed;

โย อิมัง โลกัง สะเทวะกัง สะมาระกัง สะพรัหมะกัง
Yo imam lokam sadevakam samaarakam sabrahmakam,
สัสสะมะณะพราหมะณิง ปะชัง สะเทวะมะ นุสสัง สะยัง อะภิญญา สัจฉิกัตวา ปะเวเทสิ
Sassamana-braahmanim pajam sadeva-manussam sayam abhiññaa sacchikatvaa pavedesi
who made known — having realized it through direct knowledge — this world with its devas, maaras, & brahmas, its generations with their contemplatives & priests, their rulers & common people;

โย ธัมมัง เทเสสิ อาทิกัลยาณัง มัชเฌ กัลยาณัง ปะริโยสานะ กัลยาณัง
Yo dhammam desesi aadi-kalyaanam majjhe-kalyaanam pariyosaana-kalyaanam;
who explained the Dhamma fine in the beginning, fine in the middle, fine in the end;

สาตถัง สะพยัญชะนัง เกวะละปะริปุณณัง ปะริสุทธัง ภะคะวันตัง สิระสา นะมานิ
Saattham sabyañjanam kevala-paripunnam parisuddham bhagavantam sirasaa namaami
who expounded the holy life both in its particulars & in its essence, entirely complete, surpassingly pure:

ตะมะหัง ภะคะวันตัง อะภิปูชะยามิ
Tam-aham bhagavantam abhipuujayaami,
I worship most highly that Blessed One,

ตะมะหัง ภะคะวันตัง สิระสา นะมานิ
Tam-aham bhagavantam sirasaa namaami
To that Blessed One I bow my head down

9_Dhamma Bhithuti / Praise to the Dhamma

(นำ) หันทะ มะยัง ธัมมาภิถุติง กะโรมะ เส ฯ

Leader: Now let us give high praise to the Dhamma:

(รับ) โย โส สวากขาโต ภะคะวะตา ธัมโม, สันทิฏฐิโก อะกาลิโก
[Yo so svaakkhaato] bhagavataa dhammo,
The Dhamma well-expounded by the Blessed One,

สันทิฏฐิ โก อะกาลิ โก เอหิปัสสิโก,
Sanditthiko akaaliko ehipassiko,
to be seen here & now, timeless, inviting all to come & see,

โอปะนะยิโก ปัจจัตตัง เวทิตัพโพ วิญญูหิ,
Opanayiko paccattam veditabbo viññuuhi:
leading inward, to be seen by the wise for themselves:

ตะมะหัง ธัมมัง อะภิปูชะยามิ ตะมะหัง ธัมมัง สิระสา นะมานิ ฯ
Tam-aham dhammam abhipuujayaami,
I worship most highly that Dhamma,

ตะมะหัง ธัมมัง สิระสา นะมานิ ฯ
Tam-aham dhammam sirasaa namaami
To that Dhamma I bow my head down

10_Sangha Bhithuti - Praise to the Sangha

(นำ) หันทะ มะยัง สังฆาภิถุติง กะโรมะ เส ฯ
Handa mayam sanghaabhithutim karoma se:
(LEADER): Now let us give high praise to the Sangha:

(รับ) โย โส สุปะฏิปันโน ภะคะวะโต สาวะกะสังโฆ,
[Yo so supatipanno] bhagavato saavaka-sangho,
(ALL): The Sangha of the Blessed Ones disciples who have practiced well,

อุชุปะฏิปันโน ภะคะวะโต สาวะกะสังโฆ
Uju-patipanno bhagavato saavaka-sangho,
the Sangha of the Blessed Ones disciples who have practiced straightforwardly,

ญายะปะฏิปันโน ภะคะวะโต สาวะกะสังโฆ,
Ñaaya-patipanno bhagavato saavaka-sangho,
the Sangha of the Blessed Ones disciples who have practiced methodically,

สามีจิปะฏิปันโน ภะคะวะโต สาวะกะสังโฆ,
Saamiici-patipanno bhagavato saavaka-sangho,
the Sangha of the Blessed Ones disciples who have practiced masterfully,

ยะทิทัง จัตตาริ ปุริสะยุคานิ อัฏฐะ ปุริสะปุคคะลา,
Yadidam cattaari purisa-yugaani attha purisa-puggalaa:
i.e., the four pairs — the eight types — of Noble Ones:

เอสะ ภะคะวะโต สาวะกะสังโฆล อาหุเนยโย
Esa bhagavato saavaka-sangho —
That is the Sangha of the Blessed Ones disciples —

ปาหุเนยโย ทักขิเณยโย อัญชะลีกะระณีโย,
AAhuneyyo paahuneyyo dakkhineyyo añjali-karaniiyo,
worthy of gifts, worthy of hospitality, worthy of offerings, worthy of respect,

อะนุตตะรัง ปุญญักเขตตัง โลกัสสะ,
Anuttaram puññakkhettam lokassa:
the incomparable field of merit for the world:

ตะมะหัง สังฆัง อะภิปูชะยามิ
Tam-aham sangham abhipuujayaami,
I worship most highly that Sangha,

ตะมะหัง สังฆัง สิระสา นะมามิ ฯ
Tam-aham sangham sirasaa namaami
To that Sangha I bow my head down.

[Buddho susuddho] karunaa-mahannavo,
The Buddha, well-purified, with ocean-like compassion,

โยจจันตะสุทธัพพะระญาณะโลจะโน
Yoccanta-suddhabbara-ñaana-locano,
Possessed of the eye of knowledge completely purified,

โลกัสสะ ปาปูปะกิเลสะฆาตะโก
Lokassa paapuupakilesa-ghaatako:

Vandaami buddham aham-aadarena tam
I revere that Buddha with devotion

ธัมโม ปะทีโป วิยะ ตัสสะ สัตถุโน
Dhammo padiipo viya tassa satthuno,
The Teachers Dhamma, like a lamp,

โย มัคคะปากามะตะเภทะภินนะโก
Yo magga-paakaamata-bhedabhinnako,
divided into Path, Fruition, & the Deathless,

โลกุตตะโร โย จะ ตะทัตถะทีปะโน
Lokuttaro yo ca tad-attha-diipano:
both transcendent (itself) & showing the way to that goal:

วันทามิ ธัมมัง อะหะมาทะเรนะ ตัง
Vandaami dhammam aham-aadarena tam
I revere that Dhamma with devotion

สังโฆ สุเขตตายะติเขตตะสัญญิโต
Sangho sukhettaabhyatikhetta-saññito,
The Sangha, called a field better than the best,

โย ทิฏฐะสันโต สุคะตานุโพธะโก
Yo dittha-santo sugataanubodhako,
who have seen peace, awakening after the one gone the good way,

โลลัปปะหีโน อะริโย สุเมธะโส
Lolappahiino ariyo sumedhaso:
who have abandoned carelessness — the noble ones, the wise:

วันทามิ สังฆัง อะหะมาทะเรนะ ตัง
Vandaami sangham aham-aadarena tam
I revere that Sangha with devotion

อิจเจวะเมกันตะภิปูชะเนยยะกัง
Iccevam-ekantabhipuujaneyyakam,
By the power of the merit I have made

วัตถุตตะยัง วันทะยะตาภิสังขะตัง
Vatthuttayam vandayataabhisankhatam,
in giving reverence to the Triple Gem

ปุญญัง มะยา ยัง มะมะ สัพพุปัททะวา
Puññam mayaa yam mama sabbupaddavaa,
worthy of only the highest homage,

มา โหนตุ เว ตัสสะ ปะภาวะสัทธิยา ฯ
Maa hontu ve tassa pabhaava-siddhiyaa
may all my obstructions cease to be.

12_Samvega Parikittanapaatha - Passages conducive to dispassionateness

อิธะ ตะถาคะโต โลเก อุปปันโน อะระหัง สัมมา สัมพุทโธ,
Idha tathaagato loke uppanno araham sammaa-sambuddho,
Here, One attained to the Truth, Worthy & Rightly Self-awakened, has appeared in the world,

ธัมโม จะ เทสิโต นิยยานิโก อุปะสะมิโก ปะรินิพพานิโก สัมโพธะคามี สุคะตัปปะเวทิโต
Dhammo ca desito niyyaaniko upasamiko parinibbaaniko sambodhagaamii sugatappavedito
And Dhamma is explained, leading out (of samsara), calming, tending toward total Nibbana, going to self-awakening, declared by one who has gone the good way

มะยันตัง ธัมมัง สุตวา เอวัง ชานามะ
Mayan-tam dhammam sutvaa evam jaanaama,
Having heard the Dhamma, we know this:

ชาติปิ ทุกขา ชะราปิ ทุกขา, มะระณัมปิ ทุกขัง,
Jaatipi dukkhaa jaraapi dukkhaa maranampi dukkham,
Birth is stressful, aging is stressful, death is stressful,

โสกะปะริเทวะทุกขะโทมะนัสสุปายาสาปิ ทุกขา
Soka-parideva-dukkha-domanassupaayaasaapi dukkhaa,
Sorrow, lamentation, pain, distress, & despair are stressful,

อัปปิเยหิ สัมปะโยโค ทุกโข ปิเยหิ วิปปะโยโค ทุกโข ยัมปิจฉัง นะ ละภะติ ตัมปิ ทุกขัง
Appiyehi sampayogo dukkho piyehi vippayogo dukkho yampiccham na labhati tampi dukkham,
Association with things disliked is stressful, separation from things liked is stressful, not getting what one wants is stressful,

สังขิตเตนะ ปัญจุปาทานักขันธา ทุกขา
Sankhittena pañcupaadaanakkhandhaa dukkhaa,
In short, the five clinging-aggregates are stressful,

รูปูปาทานักขันโธ
Ruupuupaadaanakkhandho,
Form as a clinging-aggregate,

เวทะนูปาทานักขันโธ
Vedanuupaadaanakkhandho,
Feeling as a clinging-aggregate,

Perception as a clinging-aggregate,

สังขารูปาทานนักขันโธ
Sankhaaruupaadaanakkhandho,
Mental processes as a clinging-aggregate,

วิญญาณูปาทานักขันโธ
Viññaanuupaadaanakkhandho
Consciousness as a clinging-aggregate

เยสัง ปะริญญายะ
Yesam pariññaaya,
ธะระมาโน โส ภะคะวา
Dharamaano so bhagavaa,
เอวัง พะหุลัง สาวะเก วิเนติ
Evam bahulam saavake vineti,
So that they might fully understand this, the Blessed One,
while still alive, often instructed his listeners in this way;

เอวัง ภาคา จะ ปะนัสสะ ภะคะวะโต สาวะเกสุ อะนุสาสะนี
Evam bhaagaa ca panassa bhagavato saavakesu anusaasanii,
พะหุลา ปะวัตตะติ
Bahulam pavattati:
Many times did he emphasize this part of his admonition:

รูปัง อะนิจจัง
Ruupam aniccam,
Form is inconstant,

เวทะนา อะนิจจา
Vedanaa aniccaa,
Feeling is inconstant,

สัญญา อะนิจจา

Perception is inconstant,

สังขารา อะนิจจา
Sankhaaraa aniccaa,
Mental processes are inconstant,

วิญญาณัง อะนิจจัง
Viññaanam aniccam,
Consciousness is inconstant,

รูปัง อะนัตตา

Form is not-self/ not-soul,

เวทะนา อะนัตตา
Vedanaa anattaa,
Feeling is not-self/ not-soul,

สัญญา อะนัตตา
Saññaa anattaa,
Perception is not-self/ not-soul,

สังขารา อะนัตตา
Sankhaaraa anattaa,
Mental processes are not-self/ not-soul,

วิญญาณัง อะนัตตา
Viññaanam anattaa,
Consciousness is not-self/ not-soul,

สัพเพ สังขารา อะนิจจา
Sabbe sankhaaraa aniccaa,
All processes are inconstant,

สัพเพ ธัมมา อะนัตตาติ
Sabbe dhammaa anattaati
All phenomena are not-self/ not-soul

เต (ตา) มะยัง
Te (WOMEN: Taa ) mayam,
โอติณณามะหะ ชาติยา ชะรามะระเณนะ
Otinnaamha jaatiyaa jaraa-maranena,
โสเกหิ ปะริเทเวหิ ทุกเขหิ โทมะนัสเสหิ อุปายาเสหิ,
Sokehi paridevehi dukkhehi domanassehi upaayaasehi,
ทุกโขติณณา ทุกขะปะเรตา
Dukkhotinnaa dukkha-paretaa,
All of us, beset by birth, aging, & death, by sorrows, lamentations, pains,
distresses, & despairs, beset by stress, overcome with stress, (consider),

อัปเปวะนามิมัสสะ เกวะลัสสะ ทุกขักขันธัสสะ อันตะกิริยา ปัญญาเยถาติ
Appeva naamimassa kevalassa dukkhakkhandhassa antakiriyaa paññaayethaati!
O, that the end of this entire mass of suffering & stress might be known!

จิระปะรินิพุตัมปิ ตัง ภะคะวันตัง อุททิสสะ อะระหันตัง สัมมาสัมพุทธัง
Cira-parinibbutampi tam bhagavantam uddissa arahantam sammaa-sambuddham,
สัทธา อะคารัสมา อะนะคาริยัง ปัพพะชิตา
Saddhaa agaarasmaa anagaariyam pabbajitaa
Though the total Liberation of the Blessed One, the Worthy One, the Rightly Self-awakened One,
was long ago, we have gone forth in faith from home to homelessness in dedication to him
ตัสมิง ภะคะวะติ พรัหมะจะริยัง จะรามะ,
Tasmim bhagavati brahma-cariyam caraama,
We practice that Blessed Ones holy life,

ภิกขูนัง สิกขาสาชีวะสะมาปันนา
(Bhikkhuunam sikkhaa-saajiiva-samaapannaa
Fully endowed with the bhikkhus training & livelihood)

ตัง โน พรัหมะจะริยัง
Tam no brahma-cariyam,
อิมัสสะ ้เกวะลัสสะ ทุกขักขันธัสสะ อันตะกิริยายะ สังวัตตะตูติ ฯ
Imassa kevalassa dukkhakkhandhassa antakiriyaaya samvattatu
May this holy life of ours bring about the end of this entire mass of suffering & stress

จิระปะรินิพพุตัมปิ ตัง ภะคะวันตัง สะระณัง คะตา
Cira-parinibbutampi tam bhagavantam saranam gataa,
ธัมมัญจะ ภิกขุสังฆัญจะ
Dhammañca bhikkhu-sanghañca,
Though the total Liberation of the Blessed One, the Worthy One, the Rightly Self-awakened One,
was long ago, we have gone for refuge in him, in the Dhamma, & in the Bhikkhu Sangha,

ตัสสะ ภะคะวะโต สาสะนัง ยะถาสะติ ยะถาพะลัง มะนะสิกะโรมะ
Tassa bhagavato saasanam yathaa-sati yathaa-balam manasikaroma,
อะนุปะฏิปัชชามะ
Anupatipajjaama,
We attend to the instruction of the Blessed One, as far as our mindfulness & strength will allow, and we practice accordingly

สา สา โน ปะฏิปัตติ
Saa saa no patipatti,
อิมัสสะ เกวะลัสสะ ทุกขักขันธัสสะ อันตะกิริยายะ สังวัตตะตุ ฯ
Imassa kevalassa dukkhakkhandhassa antakiriyaaya samvattatu
May this practice of ours bring about the end of this entire mass of suffering & stress

Handa mayam Buddhaa nussatinayam karoma se
Let us now chant the method of recollecting the Buddha

ตัง โข ปะนะ ภะคะวันตัง เอวัง กัลยาโณ กิตติสัทโท อัพภุค คะโต
[Tam kho pana bhagavantam] evam kalyaano kitti-saddo abbhuggato,
This fine report of the Blessed Ones reputation has spread far & wide:

อิติปิ โส ภะคะวา อะระหัง สัมมาสัมพุทโธ
Itipi so bhagavaa araham sammaa-sambuddho,
He is a Blessed One, a Worthy One, a Rightly Self-awakened One,

วิชชาจะระณะสัม ปันโน สุคะโต โลกะวิทู
Vijjaa-carana-sampanno sugato lokaviduu,
consummate in knowledge & conduct, one who has gone the good way, knower of the cosmos,

อะนุตตะโร ปุริสะทัมมะสาระถิ สัตถา เทวะมะนุสสานัง พุทโธ ภะคะวาติ
Anuttaro purisa-damma-saarathi satthaa deva-manussaanam buddho bhagavaati
unexcelled trainer of those who can be taught, teacher of human & divine beings; awakened; blessed

14_Buddha Bhigiiti - Hymn to the Buddha

Handa mayam buddhaabhigiitim karoma se:
Now let us chant in celebration of the Buddha:

[Buddhvaarahanta]-varataadigunaabhiyutto,
The Buddha, endowed with such virtues as highest worthiness:

สุทธาภิญาณะกะรุณาหิ สะมาคะตัตโต
Suddhaabhiñaana-karunaahi samaagatatto,
In him, purity, supreme knowledge, & compassion converge

โพเธสิ โย สุชะนะตัง กะมะลังวะ สูโร
Bodhesi yo sujanatam kamalam va suuro,
He awakens good people like the sun does the lotus

วันทามะหัง ตะมะระณัง สิระสา ชิเนนทัง
Vandaamaham tam-aranam sirasaa jinendam
I revere with my head that Peaceful One, the Conqueror Supreme

พุทโธ โย สัพพะปาณีนัง สะระณัง เขมะมุตตะมัง
Buddho yo sabba-paaniinam Saranam khemam-uttamam
The Buddha who for all beings is the secure, the highest refuge,

ปะฐะมานุสสะติฏฐานัง วันทามิ ตัง สิเรนะหัง
Pathamaanussatitthaanam Vandaami tam sirenaham,
The first theme for recollection: I revere him with my head

พุทธัสสาหัสมิ ทาโส วะ พุทโธ เม สามิกิสสะโร
Buddhassaahasmi daaso (WOMEN: daasii) va Buddho me saamikissaro
I am the Buddhas servant, the Buddha is my sovereign master,

พุทโธ ทุกขัสสะ ฆาตา จะ วิธาตา จะ หิตัสสะ เม
Buddho dukkhassa ghaataa ca Vidhaataa ca hitassa me
The Buddha is a destroyer of suffering & a provider of welfare for me

พุทธัสสาหัง นิยยาเทมิ สะรีรัญชีวิตัญจิทัง
Buddhassaaham niyyaademi Sariirañjiivitañcidam
To the Buddha I dedicate this body & this life of mine

วันทันโตหัง จะริสสามิ พุทธัสเสวะ สุโพธิตัง
Vandantoham (Vandantiiham) carissaami Buddhasseva subodhitam
I will fare with reverence for the Buddhas genuine Awakening

นัตถิ เม สะระณัง อัญญัง พุทโธ เม สะระณัง วะรัง
Natthi me saranam aññam, Buddho me saranam varam:
I have no other refuge, the Buddha is my foremost refuge:

เอเตนะ สัจจะวัชเชนะ วัฑเฒยยัง สัตถุ สาสะเน
Etena sacca-vajjena, Vaddheyyam satthu-saasane
By the speaking of this truth, may I grow in the Teachers instruction

พุทธัง เม วันทะมาเนนะ
Buddham me vandamaanena (vandamaanaaya)
ยัง ปุญญัง ปะสุตัง อิธะ
Yam puññam pasutam idha,
สัพเพปิ อันตะรายา เม
Sabbe pi antaraayaa me,
มาเหสุง ตัสสะ เตชะสา
Maahesum tassa tejasaa
Through the power of the merit here produced by my reverence for the Buddha, may all my obstructions cease to be

Whatever bad kamma I have done to the Buddha
by body, by speech, or by mind,
may the Buddha accept my admission of it,
so that in the future I may show restraint toward the Buddha

to be seen here & now, timeless, inviting all to come & see,

โอปะนะยิโก ปัจจัตตัง เวทิตัพโพ วิญญูหีติ
Opanayiko paccattam veditabbo viññuuhiiti
leading inward, to be seen by the wise for themselves

I revere that foremost Dhamma, the destroyer of darkness

the Sangha of the Blessed Ones disciples who have practiced straightforwardly,

ญายะปะฏิปันโน ภะคะวะโต สาวะกะสังโฆ
Ñaaya-patipanno bhagavato saavaka-sangho,
the Sangha of the Blessed Ones disciples who have practiced methodically,

สามีจิปะฏิปันโน ภะคะวะโต สาวะกะสังโฆ
Saamiici-patipanno bhagavato saavaka-sangho,
the Sangha of the Blessed Ones disciples who have practiced masterfully,

ยะทิทัง จัตตาริ ปุริสะยุคานิ อัฏฐะ ปุริสะปุคคะลา,
Yadidam cattaari purisa-yugaani attha purisa-puggalaa:
ie, the four pairs — the eight types — of Noble Ones:

เอสะ ภะคะวะโต สาวะกะสังโฆ
Esa bhagavato saavaka-sangho —
That is the Sangha of the Blessed Ones disciples —

อาหุเนยโน ปาหุเนยโย ทักขิเณยโย อัญชะลีกะระณีโย
AAhuneyyo paahuneyyo dakkhineyyo añjali-karaniiyo,
worthy of gifts, worthy of hospitality, worthy of offerings, worthy of respect,

อะนุตตะรัง ปุญญักเขตตัง โลกัสสาติ
Anuttaram puññakkhettam lokassaati
the incomparable field of merit for the world

Yotthaabbidho ariya-puggala-sangha-settho,
The supreme Sangha formed of the eight types of Noble Ones,

สีลาทิธัมมะปะวะราสะยะกายะจิตโต
Siilaadidhamma-pavaraasaya-kaaya-citto:
Guided in body & mind by such principles as morality:

วันทามะหัง ตะมะริยานะ คะณัง สุสุทธัง
Vandaamaham tam-ariyaana-ganam susuddham
I revere that group of Noble Ones well-purified

สังโฆ โย สัพพะปาณีนัง สะระณัง เขมะมุตตะมัง
Sangho yo sabba-paaniinam
สังโฆ โย สัพพะปาณีนัง สะระณัง เขมะมุตตะมัง
Saranam khemam-uttamam
The Sangha that for all beings is the secure, the highest refuge,

Sangho me saranam varam:
I have no other refuge, the Sangha is my foremost refuge:

เอเตนะ สัจจะวัชเชนะ วัฑเฒยยัง สัตถุ สาสะเน
Etena sacca-vajjena,
เอเตนะ สัจจะวัชเชนะ วัฑเฒยยัง สัตถุ สาสะเน
Vaddheyyam satthu-saasane
By the speaking of this truth, may I grow in the Teachers instruction

สังฆัง เม วันทะมาเนนะ ยัง ปุญญัง ปะสุตัง อิธะ
Sangham me vandamaanena (vandamaanaaya)

Yam puññam pasutam idha,
สัพเพปิ อันตะรายา เม มาเหสุง ตัสสะ เตชะสา ฯ
Sabbe pi antaraayaa me,
สัพเพปิ อันตะรายา เม มาเหสุง ตัสสะ เตชะสา ฯ
Maahesum tassa tejasaa
Through the power of the merit here produced by my reverence for the Sangha, may all my obstructions cease to be

กาเยนะ วาจายะ วะ เจตะสา วา
Kaayena vaacaaya va cetasaa vaa,
สังเฆ กุกัมมัง ปะกะตัง มะยา ยัง
Sanghe kukammam pakatam mayaa yam,
สังโฆ ปะฏิคคัณหะตุ อัจจะยังตัง
Sangho patigganhatu accayantam,
กาลันตะเร สังวะริตุง วะ สังเฆ ฯ
Kaalantare samvaritum va sanghe
Whatever bad kamma I have done to the Sangha
by body, by speech, or by mind,
may the Sangha accept my admission of it,
so that in the future I may show restraint toward the Sangha

I am subject to aging. Aging is unavoidable.

Kammassakomhi kamma-daayaado kamma-yoni kamma-bandhu kamma-patisarano
I am the owner of my actions, heir to my actions, born of my actions, related through my actions, and live dependent on my actions.

ยัง กัม มัง กะ ริส สามิ กัลยา ณัง วา ปา ปะ กัง วา ตัสสะ ทายา โท ภะวิส สามิ ,
Yam kammam karissaami kalyaanam vaa paapakam vaa tassa daayaado bhavissaami
Whatever I do, for good or for evil, to that will I fall heir.

เอวัง อัม เห หิ อะภิณ หัง ปัจ จะ เวก ขิตัพ พัง .
